The Dedham Boathouse

I went with a group of friends to The Boathouse in the pretty village of Dedham yesterday evening and had a lovely time.  The restaurant was decorated for Christmas with a beautiful tree to greet you as you come in and the ambience was cosy and friendly.

My dish of salmon was perfectly cooked and thoroughly enjoyable.  I asked for a change to be made (the dish comes with fennel, which I am not keen on) but this was no problem and a dish of vegetables was brought to the table instead. The choice of desserts was lovely and the one chosen was warm treacle tart drizzled with warm honey and clotted cream.

In the summer you can hire rowing boats from The Boathouse and take a spin up the River Stour to Flatford Mill (owned by the National Trust). If you don’t feel quite that energetic, you can sit outside and have tea or ice cream and watch the world go by.

I have been to The Dedham Boathouse several times before and it has always been good, but this time I thought it was excellent.

I can thoroughly recommend their taster menu which is available again in the new year and is excellent value at £12.95 for three courses.
