Mersea Island Vineyard

Mersea Island VineyardLegend has it that the Romans grew grapes on Mersea Island and with its gently sloping, south-facing fields, the vineyard is still the perfect place for vines.

The present Mersea Island Vineyard was established in 1985. Today there are about ten acres, under five grape varieties, producing some twenty thousand bottles each year.

Mersea Island vineyard offers a range of white wines from very dry to when conditions on the vineyard have allowed it, sweet dessert wine.

You can have a look around the vineyard if you can get between 20-40 people together for a pre-arranged tour from April through to September, weekday evenings.

Prices start at £6.00 per person, which includes a tour of the vineyard and brewery, plus tastings of a selection of wines and beers.

Supper to follow the tour can be provided by the “Courtyard Cafe” at the Vineyard
